In an effort to reduce paper usage this year I have been trying to find ways of replacing all of my paper based activities, and as much as I’d like to, I just can’t get away from the need to occasionally write something down, this search led me to Kickstarter and Rocketbook.

Initially the product I landed on was the Wave, a notebook that you could erase by microwaving, but this could only be done 5 times, so didn’t quite meet the green credentials I was looking for, however, they did do another product, the Everlast, this was a product that could be erased multiple times, purely by running a damp cloth over the page, this seemed ideal, so I looked further into it.

So the pages are made from a synthetic material, which allows the pages to be erased with a damp cloth, you also have to use a particular pen range, the Pilot Frixion, these use a particular type of thermo-sensitive ink and they can be used on regular paper as well as with these notebooks. But what about saving the data, a lot of us will be used to saving notebooks to refer back to in the future if necessary, the added bonus of the Rocketbook range is that they provide an app with which you can configure multiple cloud services, or if you use one service then you can configure each icon to a specific folder within that service, this is a great benefit as it allows you to preserve the data before ‘resetting’ your notebook with a damp cloth.

So I took the plunge and ordered an Everlast, and so far so good, it has all worked as advertised, I’ve been using it for a few months now and I’ve not needed to resort to using regular paper notebooks, I still have a dependance on post-it notes, so I’m hoping someone will take a similar route with those, providing reusable post-its which don’t lose their stickyness would be great.
