BMW i3 - Whining Noise
So today I had an unexpected problem in my BMW i3
When driving home, there was a bit of debris on the road (looked like gravel and wood fragments), after driving over this, the car started making a horrendous whining/grinding noise when travelling forward (it would quieten when turning)
After we got home, I checked the car over, there was no damage or anything visibly wrong with it, so I took it out again, and starting off, it didn’t make the noise, but a few feet from home it started again, one of the posts I read later likened it to a tram turning and I’d agree with that,
Anyway, it seemed to vary with the speed, so I went faster and then braked hard (on an empty road), and there wasn’t any change it the noise, so I thought it wasn’t related to the brakes, tried it again, accelerating then braking and there was a ping sound, like the sound of stone hitting metal, after that, all the noise stopped, I drove around for a few more minutes and tested braking, suspension, steering, all felt fine, so I headed home, happy that the car was sorted
After getting back, Google informed me that it has happened to a fair few i3 owners and the advice from BMW is pretty much what I did instinctively, here’s the link - https://www.mybmwi3.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1700
